Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. I participated last year, is that okay?

Yes of course! Things are different this year, we’ll be having different classes and working on different problem statements as well, so there’s absolutely no issue.

2. Is there a designated place to pray during the event?

Yes! We will have a multi-faith prayer space, which will also be a rest space where people can take naps or have some quiet time. So don’t worry, we’ve got your back on this!

3. Do I need to have tech/coding/programming skills?

Absolutely not! These skills may come in helpful during prototyping, as well as when you’re exploring what possibilities there are for solving your problem statement, but we believe that other skills like creativity and innovative problem-solving are more important.

4. What are the skills we will be taught during the hackathon?

We will be having three workshops:

  1. Innovation and design thinking
  2. User Experience
  3. Prototyping

5. What do we need to bring for the event?

We’ll be releasing this as part of your participant information pack, keep a look out! Nothing unusual though, so don’t worry.

6. Will there be any mentors?

Yes, you will be mentored on the first day from 5-8pm.

7. What kind of themes will we be working on?

We have chosen 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for you to work on. More details soon!

8. Do I have to stay the whole time/both days?

YES!! If you can’t stay for any reason (and you already know) do try and join with a team mate who can cover for you and take over your role on the team.

However, we do understand that there are family issues and emergencies we can’t predict, so there will be no penalty for not turning up on the second day (other than the fact that you won’t get to present your solution to the judges).

9. Do I have to join with a team?

No. You may if you already have a group of friends you’d like to work with. We think the best team size is 4-6pax. You’re welcome to add more people to your existing team, or to create a whole new team out of people you meet at the hackathon. We’ll be doing some introductory activities so you’ll get to know each other.

10. Will there be a certificate of participation?

Yes, we will give this out on the second day.
