Co-Founder, Tech Do Good

“My team at Tech Do Good has been a great source of inspiration. Being around people who are passionate about tech really changed me. Tech is something that is constantly evolving and changing to be the better version of itself. And I really like the idea of using tech to elevate my community together with my team.”

To be highly skilled in my profession as a business analyst but am still hungry to learn more. I also would like to be in a position to provide opportunities to young girls in ways that I wish my younger self had.
The initial idea for Tech Do Good came about when my co-founder and I used to volunteer our time helping rental flat tenants. We realised that these people needed technology resources, and from time to time, we’d receive requests for help to repair broken devices.

At Tech Do Good, what we do is source for laptops that can be refurbished, and then bring in people with the expertise to do the repairs. Besides helping students, we also provide laptops to adult learners. We provide free lessons on digital literacy to our beneficiaries to help them optimize their devices.

My team at Tech Do Good has been a great source of inspiration. Being around people who are passionate about tech really changed me. Tech is something that is constantly evolving and changing to be the better version of itself. And I really like the idea of using tech to elevate my community together with my team.
My biggest hurdle was figuring out what I wanted to do in life. I struggled a lot in my youth because I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue or what I was passionate about. Then I realised that you don’t have to have it all figured out at 25 – finding your purpose takes time, and it’s a journey.

Getting interviews from employers was always challenging to me. In this day and age, I still feel that there is some degree of racial preference in the recruitment process. I find myself having to work extra hard to prove myself and make myself stand out amongst other candidates.

Be brave and take the leap! Don’t be afraid to fail! Up till recently, I was always afraid of change and to start something new, so I always ended up being at one place for too long. I wish for my younger self to be less afraid of failures and disappointments and enjoy life as it comes.

Using Tech Do Good as a platform for anyone to seek help if they have difficulty getting tech access and also providing a free space for those who would like to explore technology but don’t have the resources to do so. Right now TDG is in the midst of converting from a ground-up initiative to a licensed non-profit organization. This will allow us to scale up to help more people in the community.
