I view success as a journey, not a destination. At the early stage in my career every milestone, big and small, allows me to develop stronger skills and enhance my ability to meet the company’s goal. As a people’s leader, I define success by the achievements of my team. I value the opportunity to coach employees, giving them critical guidance that boosts productivity and profitability.
Back in 2012/13, there was a lot of emphasis on big data and there was a shift in how social media was being perceived. This intrigued me to explore the industry even further and eventually I landed a role in Isentia (formerly known as Brandtology).
As with any journey, there is a constant need to continually evolve and to keep up with the ever-changing world. The nature of tech and big data pushes the boundaries of being innovative and my role requires me to understand the needs of our clients while providing data backed solutions.
I’ve seen an increased number of minority women in the tech industry to date, which is a great shift in representation. This positive change is coming from different types of occupations such as programming, research and development, media intelligence, customer success and many others.
I’ll tell myself not to think twice and have faith, and to also take my time to continuously learn from my past experiences. I was in unfamiliar territory that was fast-paced – yet the industry allowed me to put things into perspective and opened my eyes to the unlimited wealth of experience.
I’d like to see myself apply the learnings that I’ve attained in this industry. Bringing up the next generation of future leaders to take up bigger and bolder roles and empowering more women to be part of this truly interesting evolving industry.
